7 Tips to Boost Your Energy and Immunity
Staying healthy and having enough energy to enjoy your life are two of the most important aspects of good health. But it’s not always easy. If you’d like to increase your immunity and boost your energy levels, keep reading.

Everyone gets sick now and then, and everyone goes through periods of lower energy. But sometimes it seems like you catch every passing virus or like you’re fighting exhaustion all the time.

At Pinnacle Healthcare System, our primary care providers know that immunity and energy are two big concerns for our patients. We put together this list of seven ways you can stay healthy and energetic so you can enjoy life to the fullest.

1. Consider your diet

When it comes to immunity and energy, your diet plays a key role. Aim to consume mostly vegetables and fruits, lean protein, whole grains, and healthy fats. Avoid sugary treats, saturated fats, and heavily processed foods. Be cautious about consuming caffeine.

Along with paying close attention to what you eat, think about when you eat. Having regularly spaced meals can help keep your blood sugar steady, which in turn, can prevent a dip in energy. Eating breakfast helps you maintain energy throughout the day.

Nutrition advice is confusing because so much of the information seems contradictory, but not if you take a commonsense approach to what you eat. If following a diet helps you, consider the Mediterranean diet.

2. Manage stress

Stress has a surprising impact on mood, energy levels, immunity, and other aspects of your overall health. If you live with chronic stress, reducing it can result in life-altering positive effects.

Here are a few tips that may help:

  • Schedule time outside, even if only for a brief walk
  • Take up yoga or meditation
  • Say no to obligations when you can
  • Build time into your life for pleasurable activities like hobbies or socializing
  • Exercise regularly

So much of modern life is stressful and outside of your control. Taking small steps to reduce stress can help more than you might think.

3. Move your body regularly

Exercise makes you healthier, which improves your immune function. Perhaps counterintuitively, exercise results in higher energy levels. It’s one of the best ways to improve your overall physical and mental health.

The most important tip we have for you regarding exercise is to find something you enjoy doing. If you don’t like running, you shouldn’t decide you’re going to run three times a week.

Ideally, whatever activity you do for exercise should be something you look forward to because you’ll be more likely to actually do it.

4. Check your sleep habits

Good sleep is essential for good health. Your body repairs itself while you rest, your immune system works while you sleep, and without good sleep your energy levels are depleted.

If you struggle to get enough high-quality sleep, some of the best things you can do include:

  • Going to bed and getting up at the same time each day
  • Creating a soothing bedtime routine
  • Avoiding screens before bedtime
  • Using your bedroom only for sleep and sex
  • Avoiding eating close to bedtime

If you’re not sleeping well, discuss it with a member of our medical team. Sleep is crucial, and we may be able to help.

5. Be cautious with alcohol

Alcohol suppresses your immune system, can disrupt sleep, and certainly affects energy levels negatively. Take note of how even one drink affects how you feel and adjust accordingly.

6. Wash your hands often

We can’t claim that washing your hands improves your energy levels, but it’s one of the best ways to avoid getting sick. Use soap and warm water, and scrub vigorously.

7. Don’t smoke

We don’t need to tell you that smoking is bad for your health, because you already know that it is. What you might not know is that it’s linked to a higher risk of all sorts of diseases that seem unrelated, such as rheumatoid arthritis.

It also decreases the amount of oxygen in your blood, which can make you feel more tired than you would otherwise.
